PUMPHEAD is an trailblazing documentary from director Andrew Pike that is designed to give voice to the many people who experience emotional disturbance after open-heart surgery – a syndrome colloquially referred to by some medical professionals as “pumphead” (referring to the heart-lung pump).

PUMPHEAD explores the gulf that can exist between advances in medical science on one hand, and the patient experience on the other. Our aim is to promote empathetic understanding and awareness, and to stimulate action on the part of patients, academic researchers and medical professionals. Emotional and psychological support are not yet widely manifest in the front-line delivery of medical services in the cardiac field, but our film, we hope, will stimulate change.

Goodship is currently seeking partners to support the production and outreach campaign.
